Everybody cut Footloose!

"Footloose" is THIS weekend. (woot woot, hello famous!) I am so excited for the kids and so proud of their hard work. I'm also really excited to have a few less 14 hour days, a bit more time with my hubby, family, and friends and embarrassingly...catch up on my tv..specifically...you know. My love, Andy Cohen. This separation is legit this time and I'm afraid we might not make it.

Soon we will be reunited... (and it feels so good!)

jumping on the Downton bandwagon

Recently P and I have jumped on the Downton Abbey bandwagon.
The hype has been out of control so we decided watching it. At first I thought it was good but..not that good. But something about it makes you want to keep watching.

Maybe it's all the jealousy, backstabbing, secret romances, and class warfare that does it for me.
No, that can't be it. Hello? This show comes on PBS and I've heard stories on NPR about it. This show is the intellectual drama. You have to have some understanding of history to catch references and appreciate it's subtleties....or that's what I'll keep telling my pompous self...Fine, I'll admit it...    Downton is basically a glorified soap opera. It makes me feel intelligent because of the British accents, gorgeous early 1900s fashion, and awkward silences that only the Brits can pull off but at the end of the day it's the same old he said/she said drama that I can't get enough of.

When Mad Men was all the rage the fashion was all about 1950's. I'm wondering if these looks will begin making a come back.

I LOVE the drama of this look...but can't see myself teaching in this...We shall see.

Relay for Life

Some of you may know this but cancer reared it's ugly (ummm ugly is not cutting it..I'm thinking pimply infested, bad face job, 30 years of tanning bed paired with a meth addiction is more appropriate) face in our life recently. There are the very feelings that come with this blow but then there are some that I didn't realize I would have.

WHAT CAN I DO?

It's so frustrating. You can be supportive, try to be fun, etc. But I want to do something that will change this..for the positive. Surprisingly, being a musician, I have no research, skills, or knowledge to add to the cause. (I know, cray) A lot of friends have been inspirational, like Kimmie who donated all her hair, and Jenna who is involved with Susan B. Komen,  and countless others who share their time and talents and I still felt like I had nothing to do. I wanted something I could do now was kind of frustrated. Honestly, I needed a project so I could feel like I was contributing in some way and not sitting idely. People deal in different ways and I attribute my "have to do something" to my Mom's countless "buck up and do" speeches. Anyway, while not doing anything one day I saw this facebook status from high school bud.
Ok friends mark your calendar for May 4th its Williamson County Relay for Life, come support American Cancer Society message me for more details.

I didn't know just tons about it but I messaged her and am now the proud team leader of the BHS team. Woot. We relay May 4th and I would LOVE and of your support possible. If you can join the team or donate in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. I have fabulous friends and Jessica  has already offered to have some sort of promotion with Stella and Dot (more details laters).

But in the meantime...
Please visit....

We are just in the beginning stages and I've just emailed my students, requested announcements, and am attempting to rally some troops. I think this is a great organization and selfishly a fabulous way to feel like I'm doing something productive.

"Hope has two beautiful daughters - their names are anger and courage; anger at the way things are, and courage to see that they do not remain the way they are." - St. Augustine

Please consider helping if you can for a great cause! Any amount can go a long way.

Introducing our new bundle of joy...

We are proud and excited about the new sounds of pitter- patter that will soon take over our lives. It's been a long time coming and we are finally ready to introduce.......

MISS LUCY!

Ha, what a tease. No, we are not having a baby but we are proud to introduce a different type of addition! We are all already so in love with Mom's new kitty, Ms. Lucy. She is already ruling the house and has fallen in love with Mom and Dad.
Excuse the appearance but I came from walking outside in the near 60 degree weather on Saturday that was followed by snow on Sunday! Cray cray TN.

ugh, a cat after my own heart. She will totally strike a pose and doesn't like a flash. None of us a do, girl. Too hard on those laugh lines.

Of course the real treat was seeing my Mom on Saturday and hanging out with her for most of the day, just us girls. I love my Momma!

Here are some that of course only deal with moi but you can find tons more that will make you laugh... and feel a twinge of pain for how true they are.

(almost) wordless Wednesday

Never gonna been super wordless. Brother Ben is wins best kid award...today. He got Mom a new kitty and kept it an entire week before giving it to her to make sure it was a "good kitty". No name yet but I hear he/she (not sure) is a snuggler!

Any name ideas?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Although life can feel totally insane I am attempting to be all lovely and positive today...

This was on the blog last year too, I think on Valentine's Day. This is my favorite picture ever of a couple and I only wish Philip and I had first thought to do this and then actually had the courage.
I am in love with...
The hubby
A beautiful mother who I can't wait to see later this week!
My wonderful father who everyone should attempt to be like.
A brother who makes everyone in his life smile...
Amazing friends who I love and miss like family.
A job that I actually love!
The promise of sleep in the middle of March...(hello end of musical and Festival competition!)
An unhealthy relationship with Bravo.
Overall...a lucky life!

Okay...back to Valentine's Day!

So many surprises on this wonderful Valentine's Day.
I'm teaching my students and in walks my vice principal. All the sudden I get all jo jo circus clown and think holy Lord this is it... I'm about to be randomly observed. Do I have the standards posted? Yes. What about the daily objective? Yes. What about the "I will" statements? Yes. (seriously, half the class could consist of taking care of these little pesky if you let it) and then I looked at her hand and what did she have? A rose! A bruin, gold rose. "Happy Valentine's Day!" beams my now favorite vice principal. I am so surprised I believe I blushed. Sadly I do not have a vase at school so I put it in a Styrofoam cup. Next my lunch inspired completely by Pinterest. One of my classes is so cute and creative and actually created a power point presentation displaying every one's obligation for the potluck. The best part? They actually brought...everything...and more. Cake balls, homemade salsa, mint brownies, bacon wrapped jalapenos, buffalo chicken dip, and so much more.

When I got home from my now standard 12 hour day, my husband surprised me with the champagne that we toasted with at our wedding! He also cooked dinner, unloaded the dishwasher and surprised me with a new fossil watch!
Now I can finally be cool with the rest of the gold train! Only 5 years behind but who's counting?

Happy Valentine's Day!

swiging statues

So I just blogged about Swinging Statues and thought about how kids always find or create the best games and wondered if anyone else in America played the same game... and what do you know? Some author B.K. in March 2001 blogged about this exact game! If children can create some kind of game that is pretty much all the same can't we all just get along?! Makes me almost want to break out a guitar and jam out to some kumbaya.

Swinging Statues

When we were young

we played a game

called ‘Swinging Statue.’

The person that was ‘It,’

had to swing everyone

around three or four times

and then let go. The object

of the game was to freeze,

statue like, the exact way

you landed. Balance, was

the key here, if you moved

laughed, fell, then you were

‘It.’ If everyone froze, the

next step was scare or trick

you into moving without

touching you. Your power of

concentration, determination

kicked in here. It was always

funny to watch who got mad

when they lost control. The

ever powerful urge to win,

competition, even then. You

would try so hard not to

move. But sometimes you

had no choice, some positions

were just hard to hold. No

matter how you tried, you

had to let go, quit being

the statue and be ‘It.’

Wake up call

I almost don't realize this wonderful feeling. It's like someone allowed me to not work on weekends and sleep in with out the use of an evil, torture devise known to most as an alarm clock. Oh wait, that's exactly what just happened. No musical, no freshman parent forums, nothing to do with mid or all-state choirs, nothing. I slept until wait for it...8:30 on Saturday AND Sunday.
Regrettably I took no pictures from this weekend so reenactments from cats will have to do.
I cannot remember a time in recent memory where I have felt this good and rested! Thankfully church had a women's retreat and although I am a woman  I decided to skip the retreat with the lovely church ladies have my own type of retreat with my family and hubby! Since so many were gone we didn't even have church choir this morning...thus the morning off to sleep in! Not trying to brag about skipping church and all of you who are about to judge/condemn/preach to me about the values of church can just skip on to another blog because I feel amazing and there's nothing you can do about it.
yup, still going with the cat reenactments. See them laughing?
The perfect storm of a weekend began Friday night with a quick stop by BHS to see my student sing the anthem and then we met Mom Dad, and UNCLE RAY in town from Seattle for dinner. Well he was in town to see the family not to go to dinner at the oh so fine dining establishment of Chili's but you get my point. The weekend continued with a visit at my parents house with Ray, Shari, and Lisa! They told story after story about visiting Grandma's house and the endless hours of fun there consisting of games like swinging statues where my Mom would spin a cousin or sibling and then throw (hurl) them and they had to stop in some sort of statuesque pose. Or classics like bicycle chicken ( I am giving this game a name because no one could remember the name) where a child would ride as close to the curb while the other kids kept their feet on the side of the road as long as possible before moving their feet with only valuable seconds to spare before the bike crushed their tiny toes. The kids would also test fate by riding close to the home with the crazed dog who would always run after them and bite at their legs. Lastly on rainy days the cousins talked about playing "coloring contests" where my Mom would use her ruler to point out mistakes as head coloring judge. ("I was tough but I was fair" Michelle) They would also sing hymns on the front porch with a Church of Christ hymnal and just once they called on the spirits of JFK and Abraham Lincoln to thunder if their presence was there...of like it often does during a storm, thunder and lighting crashed down thus ending their playing with the Ouija board. I loved hearing their stories but even more I enjoyed seeing my Mom and family laugh so hard!

Seriously? still the cats?

Today we helped P's Mom and sister get some stuff done around their new house (we= P) and we organized, cleaned and as lame as that sounds, it was so nice to just be HOME. With a quick stop from soon-to-be Mommy again Sarah along with Kyle and little Holden we enjoyed catching up with the parents...and Holden enjoyed playing with our front door.
With such a nice weekend almost over it leave me with only one thing to do.

Pray for snow.

ps. I haven't been under a rock. I realize Whitney is no longer with us (Houston not Whit Gent). I haven't figured out how to create a blog post about her glory. It will come...just be patient.

book club

Tonight rehearsal is over in time for me to go to book club. Unfortunately I haven't been able to attend book club in months because of work commitments. Tonight I'm so excited to go and talk about our wonderful book...wait... I haven't read. Honestly I don't even know what book it is... I know it's about eating healthy and organic. Probably should have read it since I just ate 2 Popsicles and a sister schubert roll. Whatever the case I'm so excited to see my friends and at least pretend that I read! Ugh, have to get on my reading game to reach this reading a book a month goal.
